Animal Dermatology & Allergy Testing for Pets in the Florida Climate
The hot and humid Florida temperatures of Pinellas County and surrounding communities can be particularly conducive to some dermatological (skin care) problems in animals. In addition, environmental allergen contributors such as pollen, dust, and mold; food and drugs; parasites; or other infections can also cause allergic reactions that can severely distress your pet's skin. If your dog or cat has any of the following symptoms, please schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians as soon as possible:
- Extreme scratching and itching
- Chewing of the skin
- Excessive licking
- Hair loss
- Head shaking
- Swelling of the eyelids
- Crusts or bumps with scabs
Possessing the most current and advanced veterinary technologies, we have the capabilities to test for a number of common pet allergies from atopy (animal allergies to environmental inhalants like airborne pollens, dust mites, or even another pet's dander), disagreeing food or drugs, to animal ear infections, fleas, and contact allergies. After the irritant has been determined, we can then begin appropriate treatment by means of special diets, antibiotics and medication such as Atopica, or flea control products. Pet prescriptions can be filled at our in-house veterinary pharmacy.
Animal skin problems have proven to be quite uncomfortable for many pets; we therefore recommend a visit to our facility sooner rather than later to allow for adequate animal allergy testing, diagnosis, and treatment.
